Quality in use: the beating heart of the user experience

In today’s business environment, the user experience and the commercial imperatives have become overwhelmingly important. It is vital that testers understand quality in use and the user experience, in order that we focus projects correctly. "Quality in use" measures the human, business and societal impacts of products. Isabel uses examples from real projects to discuss how testers design tests derived from the user personas, contexts of use, and acceptance criteria. This requires testing during early testing of concepts and designs and later testing on built products.

Discount Usability Testing

It remains strange that when no less than 40% of the software code that is being developed world-wide is directly or indirectly related to the user-interface, we still only dedicate a minimum percentage of our test effort to usability testing. In the Agile era where everything needs to be result-focused, low on documentation, and highly efficient, there are a number of relatively easy-to use and easy-to-learn usability test techniques. In this tutorial you will learn and practice heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthrough and the SUMI questionnaire.

Test Design Techniques

One of the most important aspects of testing is to assess that the system does what it is supposed to do. This session deals with Test Design Techniques and will cover five specification-based (black box) techniques, including: equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, decision table testing, state transition testing, and use case testing. It will also cover two structure-based (white box) techniques: statement coverage and decision coverage, and why you should use decision coverage metrics rather than statement coverage metrics. The tutorial will be part lecture, and part “hands on”, where we will apply the principles learned and design test cases according to the various test design techniques.
